Guidance and Counseling Department Services

  • ADVISING: Academic, vocational, and personal as related to academic progress.

  • CONSULTATION: With students, parents, guardians, teachers, and others.

  • REFERRALS: To community, state, federal, and public agencies and private therapists.

  • COLLEGE/CAREER: Information, guidance, and direction.

  • TESTING: PSAT, PLAN, Career Planning, Nevada Proficiency, AP Testing.

  • GUIDANCE CURRICULUM: Classroom presentations.

FRESHMEN

  • Academic counseling including scheduling of classes

  • Transition from junior high school to four-year high school                                                                     

  • Guidance curriculum in the classroom regarding drugs/alcohol, harassment, importance of establishing grade point average, etc.

  • A minimum of twice yearly (once per semester) meetings with students.

  • Meetings with parents for four-year planning

  • New to BGHS Parent Night

SOPHOMORES

  • Academic counseling including scheduling of classes

  • Administration of sophomore testing (PSAT)

  • Interpretation of PSAT Results

  • Introduction to college counseling

  • A minimum of twice yearly (once per semester) meetings with students.

  • AP Planning Night for students and parents

  • AP test administration

  • Meetings with parents for educational planning

  • College admission and NCAA Student Athlete seminars for parents and students.

  • Inclusion in College Excursion program (optional)

JUNIORS

  • Academic counseling including scheduling of classes

  • Administration of PSAT testing

  • Counseling for SAT, ACT testing

  • Administration of Nevada High School Proficiency Exam

  • AP Planning Night for students and parents

  • AP test administration

  • NCAA Clearinghouse/Athletic Advising

  • BGHS College Fair

  • College admission and NCAA Student Athlete seminars for parents and students

  • A minimum of twice yearly (once per semester) meetings with students

  • Meetings with parents for educational/college planning

  • College financial planning night for parents

  • Inclusion in College Excursion program (optional)

SENIORS

  • Academic counseling including scheduling of classes

  • Continued college admission visits to BGHS throughout the fall semester

  • Counseling for ACT/SAT testing

  • Administration of Nevada High School Proficiency Exam
